Training – EV3

This guide will explain how to do build and code the EV3 robot.

The kit will be delivered on Sunday. It must be fully deconstructed by FRIDAY NIGHT! We will come pick up the kit on Saturday.

Here is a basic to-do list:

  1. Assemble the robot. (Monday)
  2. Download all software. (Tuesday)
  3. Learn about and use motors. (Wednesday)
  4. Learn about and use sensors. (Thursday)
  5. Deconstruct kit and take review quiz. (Friday)

1. Assemble the Robot (Day 1)

First you will need to assemble the robot. Download and follow the instructions below.

The file should go into the downloads folder on your computer.

For Apple Computers: Downloads can be located in the Finder Application. (The one that looks like a blue and white square face)

For Windows computers: Downloads can be located under My PC.

Double click the file to see the instructions.

2. Attach the Motor (Day 1)

After you have completed step one, you will add a motor. Use the download below.

3. Watch These Videos (Day 2-3)

Watch this video on opening programs, then the next video on using the motors.

4. Experiment! (Day 2-3)

Ask your parent if you received a laptop with the robot kit or not. If you did, than plug it in with the round cable and click the icon that looks like the one below on your laptop’s desktop.

If you did not receive a laptop, ask your parent for the instructions to install the software on your own computer, then click the icon on your desktop.

After you have learned the basics of coding, try moving forward, in circles, and a certain distance.

5. Learn About the Sensors (Day 3-4)

6. Experiment! (Days 3-4)

Try doing different things with the sensors! For example, stop at a black line, or making the robot stop when it hits something!

7. Disassemble and Organize (Day 5)

Disassemble the robot that you built and reorganize the top red tray of the box that it came in.
